The EPC was tasked by the Department for International Development (DfID) to carry out an assessment of their disaster management capability and wider crisis management in Tanzania, supporting a request from the President of Tanzania.

The EPC helped them assess their arrangements for dealing with natural disasters, large scale serious accidents and disease outbreaks and reviewed their arrangements for planning for and responding to earthquakes, ferry disasters and cholera outbreak.

As a result, the EPC produced a report detailing options for improvement.
