Simple graphics for simple tools – but both bring something to the party. You can probably see MSCW analysis can be really useful in defining the “art of the possible” – when there always seems to be more to do than you can possibly do well. The importance/urgency matrix is also really useful.

Here’s a thing we really believe in; if you have hard choices to make about priorities, and are likely to have to account for your choice, using recognised and common decision support tools can lend real rigour to your decision. That builds confidence as well. We would go so far as to suggest that your teams select the ones they deem most useful, include them in your published arrangements/plans and practice consistently with the same ones – so they become part of your SOP.
