Ian Sirrell 1

Iain has extensive experience in designing and delivering programmes of development to enhance organisational capability and capacity in crisis management. He has operated nationally and internationally, specialising in terrorist attack, to develop effective crisis response and ensure development programmes are fully embedded with high levels of competence and confidence.

Having completed a diverse 30-year career in policing, Iain has broad and rounded specialist knowledge and experience. Whilst performing the role of Force Incident Manager he utilised his academic and professional skills to create an immersive training programme designed to develop all staff involved in the response phase and test the effectiveness of major incident response policies. This work gained national attention and he was subsequently asked to support the national counter terrorism testing and exercising team as a Command & Control Advisor.

This work lead to him joining National Counter Terrorism Police as a member of the international team. That role saw him posted overseas as a subject matter expert, offering assistance to develop capability and capacity within policing and other Government agencies. Working within a cross-Government team, delivering the UK international counter terrorism strategy, his role sought to enhance the international response to terror attacks and strengthen civil protection. His cultural and political awareness and a talent to negotiate and influence helped develop lasting strategic and operational links with international partners within public and private sectors; and forged strong public/private overseas crisis management partnerships.

He has been an active educator for the past 20-years and Iain believes that it is the practical application of the new learning and seeing it successfully embedded that is most important to him. Preparedness, creating change and sustainable improvement to ensuring delegates and organisations are not only equipped, but are confident and competent, is central to Iain’s approach.

Iain fills any spare time with a myriad of sporting activities. You can find him playing golf, diving, cycling and taking part in a whole host of other outdoor pursuits. He also enjoys exploring other cultures and due to this is an avid traveller.
