Steve specialises in risk and business continuity management with an emphasis on cultural acceptance and leadership behaviours. He became a Fellow of the BCI (Budiness Continuity Institute) in 2000.
In December 2012, Steve was elected to the position of Chairman of the BCI for the second time (previously 2004-2006).
Much of Steve’s experience has been gained from creating and establishing an enterprise-wide business continuity programme for one of the UK’s largest retailers, Sainsbury’s. He also played a key role in the company’s incident management team’s response to more than 60 serious incidents over a 12 year period. As a Board Director of the BCI since 2002 he has been a major driving force in its growth and development as a truly global institute with around 8,000 members in more than 110 countries.
It has been widely acknowledged that his early work on supply chain (continuity) management initiated the professions’ drive to address the challenging subject of maintaining supply of key products and services.
Steve is a very experienced public speaker having not only spoken at but chaired numerous high profile conferences over the past 14 years in countries all around the world. More recently, with the successful launch of his company Mellish Risk & Resilience Limited, he has started to design and deliver risk and business continuity ‘master classes’ for business continuity professionals from a wide range of public and private sector businesses.
He continues to share his knowledge and experience widely with recent assignments in the financial sector as well as implementing simple but effective risk and continuity programmes for SME’s.
