Colin served with Lothian and Borders Police for 30 years. As Chief Superintendent he was Head of Community Safety, Head of Corporate Services and also Commander of The City of Edinburgh, one of the most demanding command roles in the UK. Colin also served as the Scottish National Drugs Co-ordinator (NDC), Senior Investigating Officer and as Director of Intelligence gaining extensive experience in intelligence, national and senior operational roles.
Colin is experienced in multi agency working on a day to day basis and during times of crises. As Commander for The City of Edinburgh he was a member of the Local Authority Management Team promoting multi agency work in business areas such as child protection, counter terrorism, specifically the CONTEST strategy, and serious and organised crime. As Head of Community Safety he was also in charge of diversity within the service and was lead officer for community reassurance for events as diverse as a Papal visit to Edinburgh, the first ever demonstration by the Scottish Defence League in the city and the impact of the terrorist attacks on Glasgow Airport. As NDC he was also responsible for the national drug demand and harm reduction strategy involving a multi-agency approach and authored a report on Drugs Deaths in Scotland which involved collation and analysis of large amounts of information and progressing actions and recommendations within a national multi-agency environment.
Colin is a graduate of the inaugural Leadership in Counter Terrorism (LinCT) program for UK and international counter terrorism law enforcement professionals and attended the Scottish Police College, Police Service of Northern Ireland and Harvard University. He also attended an international Homicide Program with the New York State Police and visited 5 cities in the USA as part of a State Department sponsored international program targeting Drug Demand reduction.
Since leaving the police service Colin has worked on a high profile local authority corruption enquiry, as an Associate Inspector with Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary for Scotland (HMICS), working specifically on a CONTEST thematic inspection, and as Security and Visitor Services Manager with the National Galleries of Scotland in Edinburgh.
