
One of the UK and Europe’s leading counter terrorism (CT) specialists, Alan is an expert in developing multi-agency programmers to prevent violent extremism. With over 30-years' policing service, Alan uses his knowledge to help organisations gain a shared understanding of how to combat the challenges they face.
Alan brings over 30-years' of senior policing experience to the Emergency Planning College, having worked as the UK National Counter Terrorism Co-ordinator.
Since leaving the service, Alan has delivered a variety of work, nationally and internationally including within the European Union as a Subject Matter Expert in building multi-agency programmes to prevent and respond to violent extremism and as Senior Subject Matter Expert to the UK National CT Policing Intelligence Programme.
Alan has extensive experience dealing with multi-agency incidents involving the emergency services, military, local authority and the commercial sector. He has a background in managing complex intelligence and emerging threats which he developed as Senior Investigating Officer and Director of Overt and Covert Intelligence Functions. Alan is a member of HM Inspectorate of Constabulary Fire and Rescue Services (HMICFRS) and is active within current practice as an Associate Specialist Inspections Lead for the Counter Terrorism Portfolio.
Alan feels current challenges faced by all public sector agencies highlight the importance of all stakeholders being able to work together with a shared understanding of priorities, roles and abilities.
In his spare time Alan enjoys spending time with his family, as well as travelling. He is also fond of golf when he has the opportunity to play.
