Lessons From Disasters? Looking For A New Way To Learn

Wednesday 17th May (8:00pm - 9:30pm)

This presentation will report on research undertaken on post disaster enquiries in Australia. It will identify failings in traditional processes adopted by coronial inquests and Royal Commissions and asks "is there a better way?" Alternative inquiry models are called considered and it will be argued that adopting restorative practices may open the way to more effective learning as well as healing communities damaged by the impact of disaster.

A discussion paper on the project and its findings can be found at http://www.bnhcrc.com.au/news/blogpost/michael-eburn/2016/learning-lessons-and-about-post-disaster-inquiries."
